Stolen Credit Card Used To Buy $20K Of Neiman Marcus Merchandise: Northbrook Police Blotter

When the complainant looked in his wallet, he noticed his credit card was missing.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Ben A. Johnson, of Deerfield, is accused of speeding, driving under the influence, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, and was arrested at 1:56 a.m. Feb. 21, at Waukegan and Lake Cook roads. Police said Johnson was clocked driving 70 mph in a 40 mph in a 2016 black Fiat 500. After being pulled over, police said Johnson had a hard time handing the officer his driver's license and appeared intoxicated. He reportedly also refused to comply with the sobriety tests. A court date of March 17 was assigned.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Brian E. Izaguirre Bello, of Northfield, is accused of having an expired registration, suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 1:22 p.m. Feb. 24, at Willow and Landwehr roads. A court date of March 20.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

  • A resident in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 1:01 p.m. Feb. 20, that her pearl and diamond necklace was stolen from her residence. The necklace is worth $12,000.
  • A resident of the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 11:37 a.m. Feb. 23, he had ordered $565 worth of products and was supposed to have the items shipped via USPS. Yet, when he received a notification advising him it had arrived, the items were not in his mailbox. The complainant did not know who might have stolen the items from his apartment mailroom.
  • A resident reported at 8:41 p.m. Feb. 26, that his credit card had been stolen out of his locker while he was at his fitness center in the 4100 block of Dundee Road. After contacting his credit card company, he learned the stolen credit card was used in Skokie to illegally purchase Apple products in the amount of $1,300.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A Midway Road resident reported at 7:53 p.m. Feb. 21, he had noticed someone had illegally used his credit card to purchase $20,680 worth of merchandise from Neiman Marcus. When the complainant looked in his wallet, he noticed his credit card was missing. He didn't know where or when it was stolen. The complainant is working with his credit card company to have the charges dismissed.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Police responded to a report in the 1600 block of Braeside Lane at 1:52 p.m. Feb. 23, that the cleaning staff of a homeowner arrived at their client's house and found the rear door window had been smashed. It appeared the someone had broken into the house and ransacked the bedroom area looking for jewelry. The officer contacted the homeowners, who were out of town. It is unknown how much jewelry had been stolen.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Fieldwood Drive resident reported at 11:30 p.m. Feb. 23, someone had been able to access his bank account electronically and withdraw $300 into another account. He is working with the bank officials to reverse the money back into his account.

THEFT OF SERVICES

The staff at a pizza restaurant in the 1300 block of Shermer Road reported at 10:08 p.m. Feb. 21, two males had sat down and ordered food in the amount of $50.95. After eating the meal, the pair left without paying.
