Oldsmobile Alero Leads Oak Lawn Police Officer on Car Chase

The driver of the Oldsmobile changed lanes without using a turn signal, ran a red light and drove over the median lane mark.

A car chase March 11 between the driver of a silver Oldsmobile Alero and an Oak Lawn officer police ended with a tow truck but no arrest, according to an Oak Lawn police report.

The officer saw the Oldsmobile going 56 mph in a 35 mph zone around 11:39 p.m. on 87th Street at Merrimac Avenue, according to the report. He pulled the Oldsmobile over near Parkside Avenue.

As the officer was checking registration information on a computer, the speeder drove away. The officer turned on his lights and horn and followed the Oldsmobile, which drove faster than 80 mph as it fled from the traffic stop.

The Oldsmobile changed lanes several times without using a turn signal. It drove over the median lane mark into the westbound lane to maneuver around a car that was stopped in the left turn lane at a red light at Cicero Avenue, the report stated. The Oldsmobile ran the red light as it turned left to drive northbound on Cicero Avenue.

The officer called central dispatch, which notified the Chicago Police Department what was happening.

The Oldsmobile was registered to an owner in the 8000 block of S Keating Avenue, but the Oldsmobile wasn’t there when the officer checked the address.

A Chicago police unit contacted central dispatch to say they had found the Oldsmobile parked behind Lowe’s Hardware Store on South Cicero Avenue.

The Oak Lawn officer met with a Chicago unit behind The RoomPlace on South Cicero Avenue, where the Oldsmobile was parked and unoccupied.
