$1 Million Bond Set In Oswego Coach's Hit & Run Death

A 38-year-old Aurora man with a revoked license is charged in the death of Amanda Stanton.

OSWEGO, IL — Bond was set at $1 million Saturday for an Aurora man charged in connection with the death of 26-year-old Oswego High School softball coach Amanda Stanton. Police said Stanton was found unresponsive in the area of Plainfield Road and Plainsman Court in unincorporated Oswego on Sunday, June 24. Police believe she was struck by a vehicle while walking in the area after she reportedly attended a wedding at a nearby venue.

On Thursday, police reported they'd located the vehicle they believed was involved in the crash that killed Stanton. Nehemiah Williams, 38, of the 100 block of Gregory Street in Aurora, is charged with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving death and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver's license.

Police credited the public with helping them find the vehicle, which connected them with more leads that led up to Williams's arrest.

Stanton served as the head varsity softball coach at OHS. In a statement, District 308 said Stanton "was a motivational leader, instilling her athletes with confidence and positivity."

Athletic Director Darren Howard called Stanton "one of the best and brightest young women I have had the honor to work with and mentor; she had so much to offer and will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to know her. Amanda’s work with the softball program had remarkable results.”

According to her obituary, Stanton was also a strategic math specialist at Jefferson Junior High School in Naperville, a 2014 graduate of Eastern Michigan University and a 2010 graduate of Lockport High School.
