Palatine Cooling Center Open

A cooling center in Palatine is open for those needing to escape the heat for the next couple of days. Residents can take refuge from the extreme heat at the Palatine Township Building, located at 721 S. Quentin Road, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued the heat advisory because temperatures are expected to reach between 100 and 105 degrees, with a heat index between 105 and 110 degrees.

“It is advised that residents stay inside, especially in air conditioning whenever possible. If you do not have an air conditioner, use libraries, police stations, fire stations, village halls and other public places that are cool,”said Cook County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management Executive Director Michael Masters in a news release. “A few hours spent in cool conditions can prevent dehydration and other heat-related illnesses.”
