ST. CHARLES, IL — St. Charles aldermen are expected to cut more than $2 million from the city’s budget at their meeting Monday, as officials look to offset lost revenues amid the coronavirus pandemic. Aldermen are looking to cut about 5 percent of the city’s budgeted spending, or $2.4 million, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle.

Officials are exploring reducing grant programs for small businesses and postponing construction and maintenance projects, as well as holding off on buying new city vehicles and filling nonessential jobs, the report states.

City officials are expecting losses between $2.8 million and $9.5 million as a result of the coronavirus’ impact on tax revenues, the report states.

The city’s capital improvement is also expected to take a financial hit, as it is funded by video gaming revenues, which have all but dried up, according to the report.
