NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Seven Glencoe residents reported between Aug. 26 and Sept. 8 that their identities had been stolen and used to apply for fraudulent unemployment insurance benefits.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Skokie Ridge Drive resident reported on the morning of Aug. 29 that someone had used their identity to try to open two credit cards in their name and change their address on file with the U.S. Post Office.

PASSPORT SCAM
A Drexel Avenue resident reported that they paid $59 to a fake passport renewal website and provided their personal identifying information in the process.

CHECK FRAUD
A Drexel Avenue resident reported on Sept. 3 that someone had cashed an unauthorized check worth $2,982 from their account.

STOLEN MILES
A Woodridge Lane resident reported on Sept. 9 that a thief had compromised their credit card account and cashed in their airline miles in exchange for $2,215 in cash.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a possibly unlocked bicycle worth $400 from the Glencoe Metra station on Sept. 3, police were told on Sept. 11.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Jadranka Denikov, 43, of the 2200 block of North Home Avenue, Park Ridge, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 following a traffic stop near Sheridan Road and Hawthorne Avenue. Officers ticketed him for failure to wear a seat belt and took him into custody on a warrant issued by authorities in Texas in connection with organized crime charges.

Justin Ephraim, 19, of the 4200 block of Custer Avenue, Lyons, was arrested around 11 a.m. on Aug. 31 at an unspecified location. He was taken into custody on an Will County arrest warrant stemming from a charge of home repair fraud.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a locked bicycle worth between $100 and $200 from the bicycle rack at the Kenilworth train station, 400 Richmond Road, between Aug. 16 and Aug. 19.

CAR THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked car from the 300 block of Glendenning Road after its key was left inside it. Two other unlocked cars nearby in the 300 block of Sterling Road were also burglarized but nothing was reported stolen from within.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Four 17-year-old boys were issued citations for trespassing and illegal possession of cannabis around 2 a.m. on Sept. 4 after officers discovered they had climbed the fence at Mahoney East Park, 105 Sheridan Road. The teens included residents of Wilmette, Winnetka and Glenview.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

RENTAL SCAM
A resident in the 2200 block of Birchwood Lane reported that they sent a $3,000 wire transfer to a person who they wrongly believed was an agent for an apartment rental.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized an possibly unlocked car in the 200 block of Ingram Street during the night of Aug. 26 or morning of Aug. 27. Nothing was reported missing from within.

SHOPLIFTING ATTEMPT
A man tried to steal five bottles of liquor from the Mariano's grocery store at 1822 Willow Road around 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 29 but returned the alcohol and left after he was confronted by staff.

BIKE THEFT
A Wilmette resident reported on Sept. 3 that someone had stolen a possibly unlocked bicycle worth $1,000 from the rack at New Trier High School's Northfield campus at 7 S. Happ Road at some point between 7:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 2.

ROAD RAGE REPORT
Police were called to the intersection of Willow and Waukegan roads around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 after getting a call about a report of threatening remarks during a road rage incident. The caller hung up and did not answer return calls. Officers could not locate the caller or confirm any such incident.

CHECK FRAUD

  • A homeowner in the first block of Meadowview Drive reported on Aug. 26 that someone had cashed numerous checks from their account without authorization for unspecified amounts.
  • An employee of St. James the Less church at 550 Sunset Ridge Road reported on Aug. 31 that several checks that had been intended for vendors had been cashed by someone without authorization.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Pragedis Castillo-Castillo, 51, of the 1700 block of West Chariot Court, Mt. Prospect, was arrested around for 1 a.m. on Aug. 24 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher and no valid driver’s license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Waukegan and Winnetka roads. Officers also issued him a citation for improper lane usage.

Tyler J. Schmidt, 27, of the 200 block of South Happ Road, Northfield, was arrested around 1 p.m. Aug. 29 on a telephone harassment charge stemming from allegations that he placed numerous threatening phone calls to the Mariano's grocery store at 1822 Willow Road. In the same incident another resident of the same home was arrested on a warrant. Hannah E. Williams, 32, was taken into custody after officers learned she had an active warrant stemming from failure to appear in court in connection with her arrest by police in Skokie.

WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
Four Wilmette residents reported between Aug. 22 and Sept. 10 that their identities had been stolen and used to apply for fraudulent unemployment insurance benefits.

APARTMENT SCAM
A 17th Street resident reported on Aug. 26 that they had been scammed out of an unspecified amount of money after responding to a Craigslist ad regarding an apartment.

VANDALISM
An officer discovered some kind of graffiti on the walls of a bridge near the intersection of Illinois and Happ roads on Aug. 29.

HARASSMENT
A Ridge Road resident reported on Sept. 1 that their daughter had been harassed by an acquaintance.

TRESPASSING
Village staff reported someone drove a car into the public works garage at 711 Laramie Ave. without authorization on Aug. 26 and Sept. 1.

CAR BURGLARIES
Six cars were reported burglarized on Sept. 2, including in the 400 block of 9th Street, the 900 block of Forest Avenue, the 400 block of 10th Street, and the 900 and 1000 blocks of Oakwood Avenue.

STOLEN CARS

  • A resident in the 900 block of Forest Avenue reported on Sept. 2 that someone had stolen their possibly unlocked car that had a key left inside it.
  • Someone stole a possibly unlocked Jeep Cherokee from the 2000 block of Greenwood Avenue on or before Sept. 6. It was later found in Evanston.
  • Someone stole a possibly unlocked Ford Explorer from the 600 block of Forest Avenue on or before Sept. 6. It was later found in Evanston.
  • A resident in the 1900 block of Greenwood Avenue reported on Sept. 6 that someone stole their possibly unlocked Toyota Highlander.

WALLET THEFTS

  • A shopper at the Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, reported that someone stole their wallet while they were at the store on or before Aug. 29. Their stolen credit cards were later used in other towns.
  • An employee at Chalet Nursery, 3132 Lake Ave., reported on Sept. 1 that someone stole their wallet and car keys. A stolen credit card was later used in other towns.
  • A patron of Corner Bakery, 3232 Lake Ave., reported on Sept. 2 that someone stole credit cards from their purse while dining at an outdoor patio. The cards were later used elsewhere.
  • A person at John Plunkett Interiors, 1600 10th Street, reported on Sept. 2 that a wallet was stolen, with a card from within later used in other towns.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone stole a black, gray and blue Cube Aim bicycle that was locked at the Wilmette Metra station, 722 Green Bay Road, on or before Aug. 31.
  • A resident in the 1200 block of Green Bay Road reported on Sept. 4 that their possibly unlocked bicycle had been stolen.
  • A pair of bicycles reported stolen on Sept. 6 from the 700 block of Forest Avenue and the 1800 block of Elmwood Avenue were later found in the parkway in the 2000 block of Greenwood Avenue.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Stephen M. Richardson, 34, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Jenks Street. He was also issued citations for speeding, expired driver's license and expired registration.

Gabriel Gonzalez, 44, of the 29100 block of West Morris Court, Warrenville, was arrested around 3:20 a.m. on Aug. 19 and charged with possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Oakwood Avenue. He was also issued a citation for disobeying a traffic control device.

Christopher Medina-Patino, 23, of the 9800 block of Kedvale Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 19 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater, driving with a suspended license and issued citations for no valid insurance, improper lane usage and speeding. After showing signs of intoxication, police reported that he produced a breath sample indicating he had a BAC of more than twice the legal limit.

Denise Heybrock, 59, of the 900 block of East Kenilworth Avenue, Palatine, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 3100 block of Lake Avenue. She refused to provide a breath sample and was issued citations for driving without headlights, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and a seatbelt violation.

William A. Ackermann, 32, of the 500 block of South Emerson Street, Mount Prospect, was arrested on Sept. 1 and charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property after a resident in the 700 block of Illinois Road reported that he had spray painted vulgar words on the exterior of their home. Police reported he was caught on camera and admitted to being responsible for the vandalism targeting a former romantic partner.

Marlene Saunders, 42, of the 800 block of Lavergne Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near Old Glenview Road and Crawford Avenue. Officers also issued her citations for speeding and improper lane usage.

Hezekiah J. Jekkins, 21, of the 9200 block of East Prairie Road, Skokie, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. and charged with possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis after he was pulled over for a minor traffic violation near Green Bay Road and Winnetka Avenue.

Joshua X. Rivas, 27, of the 5300 block of North Nagle Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Sept. 6 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting a peace officer following a traffic stop near 10th Street and Elmwood Avenue. He was also issued citations for disobeying a stop sign and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

JEWELRY THEFT
Police were told someone stole more than $5,000 worth of jewelry from a home in the 1200 block of Cherry Street between Nov. 23, 2020, and Aug. 14.

STOLEN CAR ATTEMPT
A resident in the 300 block of Ridge Avenue reported that someone got into their unlocked car that had a key left inside and drove it to another part of the same property.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
Someone made about $14 in unauthorized purchases at the 7-Eleven, 88 Green Bay Road, between Aug. 6 and Aug. 23 using a business credit card.

UNWANTED EMAIL
An Elder Lane resident reported that someone had sent them harassing emails between July 6 and Aug. 26.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 925 Green Bay Road, reported on Aug. 26 that someone had stolen two bottles of liquor and some over-the-counter medication for a loss of about $100.

EGGING
Someone threw eggs at a home in the 1300 block of Scott Avenue on Aug. 16 or Aug. 17, causing $1,000 in damage and discoloration of the siding, police were told on Aug. 30.

UNEMPLOYMENT FRAUD
A Lamson Drive resident reported on Sept. 7 that someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for state unemployment insurance benefits on Aug. 30.

RT CAR THEFT
A Tower Road resident reported that someone stole a remote-control car worth $700 from inside a locked storage unit between Aug. 7 and Sept. 7.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a car that had been left unlocked with the keys inside while parked in the 1500 block of Asbury Avenue between 5 p.m. Sept. 10 and 9 a.m. Sept. 11.

SIGN THEFT
Someone stole a sign that had been placed on the lawn of a home in the 300 block of Provident Avenue prior to 6 p.m. Sept. 10 for a loss of $10.

THEFT OF CAR PARTS
Someone stole the mirror lenses from both the driver's and passenger sides of a car parked in the first block of Green Bay Road between 7:20 and 9:48 p.m. on Sept. 11.

HOME BURGLARIES

  • Someone got into an unlocked garage in the 900 block of Green Bay Road and stole a locked bicycle worth about $170 between 5:45 p.m. Sept. 4 and 6 p.m. Sept. 5.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Winnetka Avenue reported that someone broke into their secured home between 11 a.m. Sept. 4 and 2 p.m. Sept. 7 and stole cash, jewelry and electronics from inside for a loss of more than $5,000.
  • Someone got into a garage in the 900 block of Green Bay Road between between Sept. 3 and 9 a.m. Sept. 6 and stole two locked bicycles from inside for a loss of $400.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole cash and cards from inside an unlocked car parked in the 1000 block of Dinsmore Road prior to 12:45 a.m. Aug. 24 for a loss of $110.
  • Someone burglarized a car in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue and rummaged through its contents. Nothing was reported stolen from within.

BIKE THEFTS

  • Someone stole the front wheel worth $60 from a locked bicycle at New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave., between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 9.
  • An unlocked bike worth $475 was reported stolen from New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave., between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sept. 10.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Garland Avenue resident reported on Aug. 23 that someone had used their identity to access a credit card account and make more than $5,000 in unauthorized purchases of tickets on the website Stubhub.
  • A Taylorsport Lane resident reported on Aug. 24 that someone had used their identity to gain access to a bank account and made more than $5,000 in unauthorized ATM withdrawals.
  • A Hamptondale Avenue resident reported on Aug. 30 that someone had used their identity to access their checking account and make more than $5,000 in unauthorized withdrawals.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Joshua J. Davis, 36, of the 7600 block of North Paulina Street, Chicago, was arrested around 3 p.m. on Aug. 24 and charged with assault and disorderly conduct in connection with an investigation into a report of some kind of disturbance at Village Hall on an unspecified date.

Steven R. Chuk, 32, of the 500 block of Everett Road, Lake Forest, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 on three in-state arrest warrants issued by authorities in Lake County. He was taken into custody on the warrants after officers noticed him enter the business Fitness Warehouse, 948 Green Bay Road, after it had closed and without authorization.
