NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

FRAUD
An Elmwood Avenue resident reported on Feb. 5 that someone had used their Citibank credit card to make to fraudulent purchases at an unspecified retailer in Niles.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone burglarized a car that had been left unlocked at the Shell gas station, 399 Ridge Road, on or before Feb. 5.
  • Someone stole cash from inside a Ford truck that had been left unlocked in the 1300 block of Elmwood Avenue on or before Feb. 6.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked Ford SUV left unlocked in the 1300 block of Elmwood Avenue on or before Feb. 6. Nothing was reported to have been stolen.
  • Someone burglarized two cars parked in the 1500 block of Forest Avenue and stole cash from inside on or before Feb. 6.

  • A woman in a dark colored coat and scarf was caught on camera stealing a recently delivered package from the front porch of a home in the 1000 block of Lake Avenue on Feb. 6.
  • A resident of a condo building in the 1900 block of Wilmette Avenue reported on Feb. 6 that someone had stolen a recently delivered package from the lobby of their building.

Whitney Gorham, 46, of the 600 block of Green Bay Road, Wilmette, was arrested on Feb. 6 after a resident reported that she had contacted him numerous times in violation of an order of protection.

A 24-year-old Northfield man was arrested around 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 7 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 2900 block of Wilmette Avenue. He was also ticketed for disobeying a stop sign.

A 23-year-old Wilmette woman was arrested on the afternoon of Feb. 8 and charged with driving with an expired license and registration following a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation near the intersection of Old Glenview and Wilshire Drive.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A Cummings Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of Feb. 3 that there had been fraudulent activity on their credit card.

GARAGE BURGLARY
A resident in the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue reported that someone got into their garage through an unlocked service door around 10:15 p.m. on Feb. 9 and burglarized an unlocked car that was parked inside. A purse was removed and later recovered without the credit cards that had been inside it.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 600 block of Roger Williams Avenue between 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9 and 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 10. Nothing of value was reported to have been stolen.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident reported around 3 p.m. on Feb. 9 that someone had put sugar into the car's gas tank while it was parked in the 500 block of Washington Avenue, causing an estimated $380 in damage.

ARRESTS

A 64-year-old Winnetka man was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Temple Court. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving without lights when required.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE

A resident in the 300 block of Riverside Drive reported on the afternoon of Feb. 8 that someone had left a suspicious package in their mailbox. Police reported there was nothing threatening found within the package.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Someone stole a catalytic converter worth more than $500 from a car parked in the lot of the College of American Pathologists, 325 Waukegan Road, between 10:30 a.m. Feb. 7 and 9 a.m. Feb. 9.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Officers showed up at the scene of a burglar alarm at the Shred415 fitness studio at 300 N. Happ Road shortly before 4 a.m. on Feb. 12. Police found indications someone had pried open a door to the business and broken a deadbolt. Nothing was reported missing from inside.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 400 block of Edens Lane reported that someone had intentionally caused an unspecified amount of damage to two cars parked in the driveway.

HOME BURGLARIES

  • Someone broke into a home in the 600 block of Thornwood Lane through a window at some point between Feb. 7 and the afternoon of Feb. 8. Nothing appeared to have been stolen at the time of the report.
  • A resident in the 2000 block of Sunset Ridge Road reported that someone had broken into a home through a garage door between 11:30 a.m. and 7:50 p.m. on Feb. 11 and stole more than $10,000 worth of property from inside.

MASK DISPUTES

  • A resident in the area of South Happ and Harding roads called police around 3 p.m. on Feb. 9 to report a verbal argument with another resident regarding the wearing of masks. Officers arrived and did not issue any citations.
  • An employee of NorthShore Immediate Care Center, 211 Waukegan Road, reported around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 that the business would refuse service to a person who refused to wear a mask. When officers arrived, the person requested an ambulance, was treated and left the area.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Grand Food Center, 606 Green Bay Road, reported around 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 that someone had just stolen about $18 of unspecified merchandise.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Dinsmore Road resident reported on Feb. 8 that someone had used their identity to open up unauthorized checking and savings accounts a week earlier.
  • A Garland Avenue resident reported on Feb. 8 that someone had altered a previously mailed check and cashed it between Jan. 12 and Jan. 24 for a loss of more than $5,000.
  • A Church Street resident reported on Feb. 9 that someone had used their identity to open up an unauthorized Home Depot account between Dec. 10 and Feb. 9 for a loss of $2,500.
  • An Oak Street resident reported on Feb. 9 that someone had used their identity to open an unauthorized savings account at Citizen's Equity First Credit Union. There was no known financial loss at the time of the report.
  • A Sunset Road resident reported on Feb. 10 that someone had used their identity in a Dec. 25 attempt to open an unauthorized Wells Fargo bank account.
  • A Locust Road resident reported on Feb. 10 that someone had used their identity to make more than $636 worth of purchases using their Citibank credit card on Feb. 8.

ARRESTS

A 50-year-old Chicago man was arrested on the morning of Feb. 10 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 900 block of Green Bay Road. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and improper turn signal.

Rickcara A. Ware, 22, of the 3400 block of West North Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 13 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest by a police officers and aggravated battery to a police officer following an encounter with police near the intersection of Elm Street and Lincoln Avenue. Officers also ticketed him for speeding, improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Sara C. Palacios, 26, of the 4600 block of Lake Trail Drive, Lisle, was arrested around 6 a.m. on Feb. 13 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. She was also issued citations for no parking in a business district and use of unsafe tires.
