2017 Guide To Halloween Events In Winnetka & Glencoe
Find trick-or-treat times and other Halloween-related events on Chicago's North Shore.

WINNETKA, IL — There's a variety of Halloween events planned for Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield this year. Spooky activities sponsored by local park districts, the Winnetka Community House and the Chicago Botanic Gardens get underway Oct. 20 and run until the end of the month.

Pumpkins in the Woods, sponsored by the Winnetka Park District, transform Hubbard Woods into your local pumpkin patch for pre-Halloween family fun. There will be carnival games, pumpkin decorating and lots of excitement, including a costume contest. It is "not designed to scare children." Register by Oct. 16 to guarantee you'll be able to receive a pumpkin. (3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Hubbard Woods Park, $5 with reservation, $10 without.)

Spooky Pooch Parade at the Chicago Botanic Garden will feature "cleverly costumed canines" marching along a parade route as dogs are allowed in the garden for "two very special hours only." There will be a costume contest, judging and an award ceremonies, with awards including Best Senior in Costume and Best Horticultural Interpretation, along with infomraiton and dog-related products from nonprofits and local pet supply shops. Viewing the parade is free but anyone bringing a dog must purchase registration. (11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden, tickets $15 in advance, $20 day-of for members, $20 in advance and $25 day-of for non-members.)
Haunted Trail of Terror at Lloyd Beach is designed to scare for ages 7 and up. The 6th annual haunted trail runs along the beach and challenges you and your friends to "escape the haunted beach and boat house." (6 p.m. - 6 p.m., Lloyd Park Boat Launch, 799 Sheridan Rd., $5 tickets, no registration required.)
Saturday, Oct. 21 & Sunday, Oct. 22
Trains, Tricks and Treats at the Chicago Botanic Garden will run Oct. 21 and Oct. 22. Families are invited to come trick-or-treat through the Model Railroad Garden, which will be decorated with pumpkins, ghosts, goblins and seasonal plant materials to celebrate the end of the railroad's season. and Halloween. Children will have an opportunity to pot a Halloween plant. (10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden, tickets $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $5 children 3-12-years-old, kids under 2 free, members save $1.)
Tuesday, Oct. 24
Halloween Trivia Night, sponsored by the Winnetka Youth Organization, will include great prizes during a spooky evening of halloweed-themed trivia. (5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Little Ricky's, 540 Lincoln Ave., $3 player fee.)
Wednesday, Oct. 25
Pumpkin Carving with the Winnetka Park District offers all the fun of carving your own pumpkin with none the clean up. Organizers will serve you snacks, like hot cider and freshly baked cookies, as the cost of registration includes a pumpkin, all necessary carving materials and snacks. (5 p.m. - 6 p.m., Park District Administrative Office Community Room, 540 Hibbard Rd., $25 per person.)
Thursday, Oct. 26
Boo Bash at the Glencoe Park District invites "all ghosts and goblins" to enjoy the "boo-tiful evening" with treats, crafts, carnival games and entertainment. The event is recommended for children ages 2 - 8, and all children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Kids under 2 are free. Registration is required, and online registration is available. (5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m., Takiff Center, 999 Green Bay Rd., tickets are $8 before Oct. 25 and $10 on the day of the event.)
Friday, Oct. 27
Haunted Halloween Extravaganza at the Winnetka Community House is new this year. It kicks off with a Monster Bash for younger kids in the afternoon, including a costume parade and a Halloween-themed puppet show. Kids will receive goody-bags, donut holes and drinks. Then in the evening, everyone is invited to Family Movie Night and a showing of Hotel Transylvania featuring popcorn, apple cider, donut holes and a lot of fun. (Monster Bash from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Family Movie Night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., $5, Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Av., tickets $5 to each event.)
Boo Bash at the Northfield Park District is intended for kids ages 3-8, who must be accompanied by an adult. There will be a special "ghoulish train ride", carnival games, crafts, cookie decorating, a balloon artist and treat bags. (6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Northfield Community Center, 401 Wagner Rd., Free)
Saturday, Oct. 28
Halloween Party on Ice at the Winnetka Ice Arena is expected to feature more than 100 skaters, many dressed in costume, skating to some "chilling" Halloween tunes. Bring a donation of dry food for the New Trier Food Pantry for free admission. (1:40 p.m. - 2:55 p.m., 490 Hibbard Rd., Admission free with donation of non-canned food, Skate rental $4)
Thursday, Oct. 26 - Sunday, Oct. 29
Night of 1,000 Jack-o'-Lanterns at the Chicago Botanic Garden will feature more than 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins lining a paved pathway along which visitors will encounter costumed characters. Snacks and drinks such as ale and cider will be sold, with hearty seasonal fare available at the Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden. (Advance tickets for adults are $14 for nonmembers and $12 for members, for children ages 3-12 they are $12 for nonmembers and $10 for members. After Oct. 25, ticket prices will rise by $2 each. Children 2 and under are free and parking is $25 for nonmembers and free to members.)
