NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 700 block of Valley Road between 5:30 and 9 p.m. on Nov. 22 and stole between $50,000 and $100,000 worth of property from inside. Police said it was the village's first burglary in many months but "likely related to a crime pattern affecting surrounding communities over the past few weeks."

IDENTITY THEFT
A Drexel Avenue resident reported on Dec. 4 that someone had used their identity to open up three bank accounts and try to take out a personal loan.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

PAINTBALL ATTACK
Around 8 p.m. on Nov. 20, a girl reported that an someone had fired several paintballs at her and her friends while at Pee Wee Park, 535 Sterling Road. Neither she nor the other children in the area were struck. Police said footage from nearby security cameras showed an unidentified male driver of a white, small-sized SUV leaving the area.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Brier Street resident reported that someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for a Citibank credit card at some point between Nov. 11 and Nov. 13
  • On Nov. 26, a Melrose Avenue resident reported that someone had used their identity to fraudulently apply for a rent-to-own credit line.
  • On Dec. 2, a different Melrose Avenue resident reported that someone had used their identity to fraudulently apply for a rent-to-own credit line.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

FRAUD
A resident of the 2400 block of Fox Meadow Lane reported on the morning of Nov. 16 that someone had gained unauthorized access to one of their accounts in October and made about $1,180 in unauthorized charges.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Crestwood Village resident reported on Nov. 17 that they had gotten a notification about unauthorized activity on their bank account.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON
On Dec. 1, police were called to the first block of Longmeadow Road by a resident who reported that there were a suspicious person at their house. Officers spoke to the person outside, who explained that they had been involved in a traffic accident with the homeowner earlier that day in Glenview and they wanted to talk to the resident about it. Northfield police told the person to talk to Glenview police if they had questions about the accident and relayed the request of the homeowner for the person not to return.

RESIDENTIAL EGGING
Police were called to a home the 2200 block of Bracken Lane around 9 p.m. on Dec. 1 for a report that someone had thrown several eggs at their home. There was no permanent damage to the residence.

THEFT OF CAR PARTS

  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a car parked in the driveway of a home in the 300 block of Linder Avenue during the night of Nov. 31 or early morning hours of Dec. 1.
  • Between 10 am and 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 2, someone stole a catalytic converter from a car parked in the lot of New Trier High School's freshman campus at 7 S. Happ Road.

ARRESTS

Andrea Majewski, 50, of the 41500 block of Route 41, Wadsworth, was arrested around 7:15 a.m. on Nov. 18 on a warrant for failure to appear in court in connection with an identity theft case.

Kristina Barbosa, 34, of the 37400 block of North Granada Boulevard, Lake Villa, turned herself in at the Northfield Police Department on Nov. 23 to face charges in connection with allegations that she stole money from from Fields Volvo between June 2019 and September 2021.

INCIDENTS

BATHROOM CANNABIS
On Nov. 12, police got a call that someone was smoking marijuana in the bathroom at All Washed Up, 1160 Wilmette Ave., and caused a minor confrontation when asked to stop. A Wilmette police officer arrived and told the person it was not permitted.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 1400 block of Lake Avenue reported on Nov. 13 that someone had burglarized their home at some point between Nov. 9 and Nov. 12.

VIOLATION OF PROTECTION ORDER
A Ridge Road resident reported on Nov. 20 that someone had sent them text messages in violation of an active order of protection.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Beverly Drive resident reported on Nov. 22 that they had stopped getting mail delivered on Nov. 8. After reporting it to the local post office, the resident learned that someone had used the U.S. Postal Service website to arrange for their mail to be forwarded to an address in Rhode Island.

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A Cherokee Road resident reported on Nov. 23 that an estranged family member had threated their life via text message.

NEWS THEFT
A resident in the 1100 block of Ashland Avenue reported on Nov. 27 that someone had been stealing the print edition of the Chicago Tribune and the New York Times from their front lawn.

CONSTRUCTION THEFT
A supervisor reported that someone stole building materials from the construction site at Loyola Academy, 1100 Laramie Ave., at some point between 3 p.m. Nov. 29 and 6 a.m. Nov. 30.

GARAGE BURGLARIES

  • Someone got into an unlocked detached garage in the 300 block of Greenleaf Avenue and stole a bicycle from inside on or before Nov. 17.
  • On Nov. 30, a resident in the 400 block of Greenleaf Avenue reported that someone had stolen a silver Giant bicycle from their unlocked garage.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident reported on Nov. 12 that someone had damaged one of their car's taillights while it was parked in the 3500 block of Greenwood Avenue.
  • A witness told police that two people — one in a blue hoodie and another in a black hoodie — threw bricks through a pair of windows at the Wilmette Rec Center, 3000 Glenview Road, around 8 p.m. on Nov. 21, before running away to the west.
  • An officer discovered on Nov. 29 that someone had used a black marker to write a vulgar phrase on a traffic control box in the 1500 block of Lake Avenue.
  • Someone keyed a car parked in the 400 block of Lawler Avenue on or before Dec. 1.

PACKAGE THEFTS

  • A resident in the 200 block of Wood Court reported on Nov. 18 that someone had stolen recently delivered packages from their front steps.
  • A resident in the 1600 block of Highland Avenue reported on Dec. 2 that someone had stolen the contents of a recently delivered package.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Around 10 a.m. on Nov. 20, a woman with a thin build and reddish hair wearing a black jacket and blue jeans stole unspecified items from the Walgreens at 3232 Lake Ave. and fled in a car with the license plate CW83104.
  • Around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 1, a man in his 40s wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, a blue baseball hat and a blue surgical mask stole unspecified items from the Walgreens at 3232 Lake Ave. and left.

ARRESTS

James Earth Jedibudiah, 45, of the 1000 block of North Cass Street, Milwaukee, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. on Nov. 14 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI–alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after an officer found him asleep behind the wheel of a car with its engine running in a parking lot in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. The officer reported Jedibudiah showed signs of impairment and produced a sample indicating his breath alcohol concentration was more than 0.2 —over 250 percent of the level limit for alcohol intoxication.

Edita Moss, 57, of the 9900 block of Keystone Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Nov. 17 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Ridge Road. Moss, who declined to provide a breath sample, was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.

Silvestre Vargas, 45, of the 1400 block of South Lombard Avenue, Berwyn, was arrested shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 after officers got a call that he had just taken items without permission from an acquaintance in the 3000 block of Greenleaf Road. Vargas returned the items and she did not wish to press charges, but police discovered that he had a warrant for failure to appear in court in connection with a felony DUI arrest in Morton Grove. While being processed, police found some drug paraphernalia in Vargas' possession and charged him with an additional misdemeanor.

Peter Wrobel, 39, formerly of the 4200 block of North Bernard Street, Chicago, was arrested on Nov. 18 and charged with disorderly conduct after police were told he repeatedly tried to get into a car while its owner was sitting inside in a parking lot in the 700 block of Green Bay Road.

Richard Harvey, 41, of the 5300 block of North Western Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 after police got a call from Amtrak staff asking for help removing an unruly passenger from the train. After taking Harvey off the train, officers learned he had a bond forfeiture warrant and was taken into custody.

Brian Smith, 49, of the 200 block of North Main Street, Glen Ellyn, was arrested on Nov. 24 at his house on a warrant for violating an active order of protection obtained by a former romantic partner who residents in Wilmette.

Nazim Alhaushabi, 33, of the 200 block of South Washington Street, Des Plaines, was arrested on Nov. 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop just south of the intersection of Green Bay Road and Winnetka Avenue.

Michael Williams, 20, no permanent residence, was arrested around 11 p.m. on Dec. 1 and charged with retail theft and resisting a police officer after officers got a call that he had shoplifted a drink from the 7-Eleven, 500 Skokie Blvd. Police said he initially resisted arrest before being taken to the station.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

THEFTS FROM VEHICLES

  • Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 1, someone damaged a door frame and stole a catalytic converter from a car parked in a driveway in the 1200 block of Oak Street.
  • Someone stole a catalytic converter from a car parked in a driveway in the 900 block of Oak Street between 11:30 p.m. Nov. 30 and 8 a.m. Dec. 1 for a loss of $1,700.
  • Between 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 30 and noon on Dec. 1, someone stole a catalytic converter from a car parked in a lot in the 500 block of Chestnut Street for a loss of $1,000.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Edgewood Lane resident reported on Nov. 15 that they discovered someone had used their identity in September to request a new debit card from Chase Bank and withdraw $4,100 from their bank account.
  • A Fisher Lane resident reported on Nov. 15 that earlier this month someone had used their identity to rank up more than $5,000 in unauthorized purchased on their Chase credit card.
  • A Spring Lane resident reported on Nov. 16 that someone had altered a check they had mailed previously for a loss of $2,500.
  • A Scott Avenue resident reported on Nov. 22 that someone had used their identity to charge more than $5,000 to their Nordstrom credit card.
  • A Walnut Street resident reported on Nov. 23 that someone had used their identity to rent a car without authorization in July for a loss of more than $180.
  • A Woodland Avenue resident reported on Nov. 30 that someone had used their identity to open up an account at Wells Fargo the day before for an unknown loss.
