Police Accuse 73-Year-Old Man Of Littering, Resisting: Blotter

Microsoft support scam, wallets stolen from purses, hypodermic needle found with driver charged with DUI: North Shore Police Blotters

The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A South Avenue resident reported around 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 that someone had used their identity in an unsuccessful attempt to buy a car online.
  • An Oak Ridge Drive resident reported around 10 a.m. on Nov. 14 that someone had used their identity to open checking accounts and take out loans at three banks. Last week police learned the thief had taken out a $10,000 loan from another bank.
  • A Washington Avenue resident reported around 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 that someone used their credit card to buy four tires and ship them to the resident. Unauthorized charges were found at Y-Nap, Party City and American Airlines, and the resident reported they also had their identity stolen about a month earlier but did not notify police.
  • A Drexel Avenue resident reported around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 17 that someone used their identity to open credit card accounts.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone threw a driveway marker at a home in the 300 block of Madison Avenue, damaging a screen prior to 4 p.m. on Nov. 15.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Isidro R. Ibarra, 73, of the 300 block of Washington Avenue, Glencoe, was arrested in his block of residence around 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 13 and charged with resisting arrest and littering.

Alexander C. Delbosque, 24, of the 2300 block of Flicker Lane, Rolling Meadows, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Nov. 15 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle, driving under the influence of drugs, driving with a suspended license and no insurance following a traffic stop in the area of Greenleaf and Park avenues. He was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage.

Avshalom Z. Chayim, 44, of the 5600 block of Court Leona, Hanover Park, was arrested around 4 p.m. on Nov. 18 in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue and charged with unlawful possession of a credit card and theft from a motor vehicle. He was also issued citations for possession of cannabis and having an obstructed windshield.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A patron of Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, Northfield, reported on Nov. 11 that a thief stole about $50 in cash from their wallet while they shopped on Nov. 5.

ANIMAL BITE
Police were called to the 300 block of South Happ Road around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 for a report that a dog had bitten a person. Officers verified the dog was up-to-date with vaccinations and assited with an exchange of information.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Latrobe Avenue resident reported around 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 16 that they noticed unauthorized debit card activity.

SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE
A resident in the 100 block of Avon Avenue reported around 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 17 that a Amazon package they had never ordered had arrived at their home. Officers contacted the company to arrange a pickup of the unwanted parcel.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 41-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 7 a.m. Nov. 11 by officers investigating a crash in the area of Willow Road and Latrobe Avenue and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole items from a package left in a lobby in the 400 block of 5th Street between 1:39 and 2:40 p.m. on Nov. 14.

HARASSMENT
A Sheridan Road resident reported that an ex-employee had been placing harassing phone calls between 10 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. on Nov. 14 Officers told the former employee to stop.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone burglarized three unlocked cars in the 700 block of Laramie Avenue between 8 p.m. on Nov. 9 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 10, stealing cash from one of them.
  • A burglar stole tools from a work truck left unlocked in the 1500 block of Greenwood Avenue between 9:30 and 10:06 a.m. on Nov. 15
  • Someone stole a purse containing $100 from an unlocked car in the 1200 block of Gregory Avenue between 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 and 9 a.m. on Nov. 16.

WALLET SNATCHING
Wilmette police reported receiving four reports of wallets stolen from purses between Nov. 1 and Nov. 18. Three of them took place at the Panera Bread, 1199 Wilmette Ave., and one occurred at Chalet Nursery, 3132 Lake Ave. Thieves look for busy locations like restaurants, grocery stores and big box retailers and target purses left open and unattended in shopping carts or the back of chairs, police said. They often later try to use credit cards found inside at other stores before the victims notice the theft, according to police.

ARRESTS

Judith A. Robb, 56, of the 3000 block of Iroquis Road, Wilmette, was arrested around 11:15 p.m. Nov. 14 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. An officer reported pulling her over for a minor traffic violation before she failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

VANDALISM
Someone used a black marker to write graffiti on the wall near the elevator at the train station platform at the Metra station, 754 Elm St., between Sept. 25 and Nov. 13. The cost to repair was $30.

THEFT
Someone stole more than $5,000 worth of jewelry from a home in the 500 block of Hawthorn Lane between noon on Sept. 1 and 3 p.m. on Sept. 3, police were told on Nov. 14.

RETAIL THEFT
Someone stole a necklace and necklace stand worth $105 from a business at 990 Green Bay Road between 4:30 and 4:40 p.m. Nov. 14.

MICROSOFT GIFT CARD SCAM
A High Street resident reported on Nov. 16 that someone had sent them an email the prior morning with a fake alert message and a phone number, purportedly to contact Microsoft for support. An unidentified scammer told the resident that their bank account was compromised and convinced them to buy more than $5,000 in gift cards to "reverse" the fictitious bank charges.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Locust Street resident reported around 3 p.m. on Nov. 13 that someone had used their identity to open a Victoria's Secret credit card on Aug. 31 and make more than $1,000 in purchases prior to Nov. 13.
  • A Fuller Lane resident reported around 3 p.m. Nov. 13 that someone had used their identity to access their bank debit card amount and make more than $2,100 in purchases.
  • An Indian Hill Road resident reported that someone used their identity to access their bank account between January 2016 and October 2019, making more than $5,000 in unauthorized withdrawals and transfers to another credit card.

ARRESTS

A 24-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 9 p.m. on Nov. 11 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road. He was also issued citations for speeding, possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis paraphernalia.

A 19-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 and charged with delivery of cannabis, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after he police pulled him over in the area of Green Bay Road and Winnetka Avenue.
