Catalytic converter thieves strike across township; locked bicycle stolen from downtown in broad daylight: New Trier Area Police Blotters

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
INCIDENTS
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 300 block of Temple Court reported someone caused more than $500 in damage to their car by scratching its side with some kind of object.
IDENTITY THEFTS

- A Hawthorne Avenue resident reported on Oct. 20 that someone had used their identity to take out a loan.
- A Dundee Road resident reported on Oct. 20 that someone had opened a utility account using their identity.
- A Country Lane resident reported on Oct. 21 that someone had used their identity in a failed attempt to apply for a car loan.
- A Drexel Lane resident reported on Oct. 22 that someone had used their identity to open three separate unauthorized bank accounts.
KENILWORTH
INCIDENTS/ARRESTS
No incidents or arrests have been reported by the Kenilworth Police Department during the month of October so far.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
Someone cut a catalytic converter worth about $300 from a car parked outside a home in the 1600 block of Mount Pleasant Street between 10 p.m. Oct. 19 and 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 20.

INCIDENTS
HOME BURGLARIES
Two residents of the first block of North Indian Hill Road reported that someone broke into their homes. In one case, personal items of unspecified value were reported stolen. In other other, it was unknown at the time of the report what, if anything, was stolen.
HARASSMENT
- A Catalpa Place resident reported on Oct. 18 that an acquaintance had sent them unwanted messages on Facebook's Instagram social media platform.
- A Cranston Court resident reported on Oct. 19 that an acquaintance had made unwanted phone calls and sent them unwanted text messages.
STOLEN CATALYTIC CONVERTERS
- A resident in the 100 block of Dupee Place reported on Oct. 7 that someone had stolen the catalytic converter from their car while parked in their driveway.
- A resident in the 1500 block of Forest Avenue reported on Oct. 14 that someone had stolen a catalytic converter from while car while it was parked on the street.
- Someone stole a catalytic converter from a car belonging to Chalet Nursey while parked in the lot at the 3132 Lake Ave. business between Oct. 12 and Oct. 15.
- A resident in the 2200 block of Thornwood Avenue reported on Oct. 19 that someone had stolen a catalytic converter from a Honda SUV parked in the street during the previous night.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
FRAUD ATTEMPT
A Winnetka Public Schools District 36 representative at The Skokie School reported on Oct. 20 that someone had unsuccessfully tried to redirect an employee's future paychecks to an unidentified bank account within the prior 24 hours.
BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a bicycle worth about $1,800 that had been locked to a rack in the 700 block of Elm Street between 8 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 21.
SIGN THEFTS
- Someone stole street signs at Ash Street and Glendale Avenue, Cherry Street and Glendale Avenue, Oak Street and Rosewood Avenue and damaged a sign for Oak Street for a loss of $800, an officer discovered on the morning of Oct. 18.
- On the morning of Oct. 20, an officer discovered that someone had stolen street signs from the intersection of Cherry and Locust streets for a loss of $200.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
John W. Williams Jr., 42, of the 1000 block of South Francisco Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Oct. 24 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol with a revoked license, DUI–alcohol, DUI–drugs, DUI–alcohol with a BAC of 0.08 or greater, DUI–alcohol and drugs combined and driving with a revoked driver's license following an encounter with police near the scene of a one-car crash in the first block of Green Bay Road.

Williams was also issued citations for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Records show the cash portion of his bond for the incident in Winnetka was set at $5,000, but he was also ordered held in connection with violating his bail on charges stemming from earlier incidents.
