Woman Charged With Cruel Treatment of Dogs is an Attorney

Jeanne Harper has been licensed since 1974 and is in "good standing."

Jeanne Harper, the woman charged with six misdemeanors related to cruel treatment of animals in connection to a find of 35 dogs in horrendous shape at her Glencoe home last week, is an attorney - online records show.

According to a profile on Lawyer.com, which lists Harper as practicing out of the 861 Greenwood Ave. address where the dogs were found covered in feces and matted fur on Thursday last week, Harper was last registered in 2014, has been practicing for 41 years, specializes in malpractice insurance and is in good standing. Harper is listed as active and “authorized to practice law.”

Charges were announced Monday by the Glencoe Department of Public Safety. Three of the six misdemeanor counts are in relation to her duties for companion animals and three others are related to cruel treatment.

Hazmat crews found the dogs in such poor condition, covered in feces and matted fur, that they could not see some of their eyes. Five dogs had to be euthanized because they were either too aggressive or in such poor condition.
