According to the district release, "NTHS recognizes outstanding student achievement in career and technical education (CTE) and promotes excellence in workforce education. Fewer than two percent of secondary students are nominated into the organization."

To qualify for membership, students need to have three or more semesters of CTE courses and earn a "B" or better in those courses and have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher. Students must also demonstrate exemplary personal conduct, exceptional character and good citizenship.
