A Look Back at DGS' 2010-2011 School Year

From Homecoming to Prom, take a look at the past school year.

In honor of graduation day, we're taking a look at the past school year at Downers Grove South. 

State, national wins 

South had two state-winning teams this year: the Fillies dance team and the speech team.

But those weren't the only Mustangs to compete (or perform) with the best in the state. The Madrigal Singers and 31 District 99 students were selected to sing at the IMEA All-State Festival. 

Students placed in the state FCCLA competition and SkillsUSA state competition. Students also received national art awards.

Zack Baleski just placed 12th at state in the high jump. Some of DGS' swimmers, like Vince Errichiello also placed at state. 

Football and basketball

The Mustang football and basketball teams both made it to the playoffs. The football team was knocked out in the first round, and the basketball team made it to the sectional semifinal game. 

Academic awards

Two students were named National Merit Finalists. Eighty-six students were inducted to the school's chapter of the National Honor Society. 

St. Baldrick's 

South raised $42,000 for St. Baldrick's in March through several fundraisers, including the Mr. Mustang competition.

College sports 

About 20 student athletes were signed to play college sports. 

Dances 

Check out the faces of the Homecoming game, B96 DJ'ed Turnabout and guys had to come up with some creative ways to ask the girls to prom. But is it a continuing trend? 

DGS band program 

The Marching Mustangs had a historic season and the jazz ensemble was chosen for the E in New York, . 

Theater 

There was also the school's musical and the fall and winter plays.
