Barricaded Man Arrested, Charged and Identified
A 53-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident that occurred in Downers Grove on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Downers Grove police have arrested Daniel E. Saxon, 53, of Downers Grove, for an incident Tuesday, Nov. 19, in which barricaded himself in his apartment after a conflict with a police officer, according to a Downers Grove Police Department news release.
Saxon was charged with disarming a police officer — a charge approved by the DuPage County States Attorney, according to the news release. His bail was set at $100,000, and he was brought to the DuPage County Jail.
On Nov. 19, Downers Grove police went around 2:50 p.m. to Fairway Grove Apartments at 2415 Ogden Ave. to investigate a report of a man acting irrationally and blocking residents from going into an apartment building, according to a previous Patch article.

When an officer approached the man, allegedly Saxon, to question him, he reportedly hit the officer. A struggle ensued as the officer attempted to gain control of the man.
During the struggle, the man disarmed the officer of his Taser, according to the news release. Police said he then fled to his apartment and barricaded himself inside.

After several attempts to contact the man, the DuPage County multi-jurisdictional SWAT team was activated, according to the Patch article. Police were eventually able to reach the man by telephone. He surrendered to police at 5:47 p.m., and he was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for evaluation.
“Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only a charge and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt,” the news release stated. “A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
