D99 Approves 2.4 Percent Tax Levy
The average homeowner will see a tax increase of around $21.60 a year.
The unanimously passed a 2.4 percent tax levy at its meeting last week, an increase that works out to about $21.60 a year for homes with a $300k market value.
The expected increase to new and existing properties is 2.1 percent, while the increase provided by new properties is -0.6 percent. The increase to existing property owners, however, is 1.5 percent.
The amount of the levy is $67,200,000, with the largest chunk of that money—$52 million—being levied for educational purposes. Additionally, $8.8 million is for operations and maintenance purposes; $2.9 is for transportation need; $1,150,000 is allotted for both municipal retirement purposes and social security purposes; $1.2 million is for special education purposes.

According to a board memo, the levy increase of 2.4 percent doesn't exceed the 2010 Extension by more than 5 percent, so a public hearing isn't required and won't happen. District 99 encompasses Downers Grove as well as parts of Woodridge, Darien, Lisle, Westmont, Bolingbrook and Oak Brook.
