DGS Student Named National Achievement Finalist

Cater Minnis is a finalist of about 170,000 students who entered the program last year.

Downers Grove South High Senior Cater Minnis is a finalist in the 2012 Competition for National Achievement Scholarships, which recognizes outstanding Black American high school students.

The academic achievement program is based in part on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Of the 170,000 students who entered the program last year, about 1,600 were named as semifinalists in September. As a finalist, Minnis is eligible to receive one of 800 scholarships, which will be selected in late February.

“Cater is an excellent student and should be proud of advancing in this prestigious competition,” said South High Principal Steve Bild in a district release.
