DGS Students Honored at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
Two DGS students received two of the five American Vision awards handed out.
Forty-four Downers Grove South students received 73 awards at the 2011 Scholastic Art Awards.
Twenty-five area high schools submitted more than 1,500 works of art for judging. Downers Grove South submitted 120 pieces and portfolios.
Two Downers Grove South students received the American Vision Award for best in show. Only five students were honored with the award. Downers Grove South students also received 24 Gold Key Awards, 22 Silver Key Awards and 25 Honorable Mention Awards.

You can check out the students' art at an opening reception on Sunday, Feb. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the auditorium foyer at Downers Grove North High School. The work will be on display for a week following the opening reception.
“We are exceedingly proud of both the process followed by our student artists, and, of the products they all create.” said Glenn Williams, Fine Arts Department Chairman at South High, on the Downers Grove South Fine Arts blog. “Scholastic Art Awards represent a high point of artistic achievement for a high school Visual Artist.”
