About 40  students were recognized in November and December as "Wolverines of the Week."

The recognition program is new to the school this year. School Dean Brianne Malatt brought the idea to  after using it at another school district.

Students are nominated by their teachers. While one seventh-grader and one eighth-grader are to be recognized each week, if there are more students who deserve recognition, they will be recognized, she said.

"Wolverines of the Week" get a call home to their parent or guardian to let them know about the award. They also receive a certificate and an invitation to a pizza party.

Students are nominated in five categories: academics, dedication, improvement, leadership and promoting positive behavior.
