Neighbor Helps Woman Escape Friday Kitchen Fire

The fire was contained to the kitchen, though there was smoke damage throughout the home.

No one was injured in a fire that broke out in the kitchen of a Woodridge home Friday afternoon.

An elderly woman at a home in the 9000 block of Charing Cross Road noticed smoke coming from the dishwasher around noon, according to a release from the Darien-Woodridge Fire Department.

She called relatives who then called 911 en route to the home. When the relatives arrived, they noticed "a great deal of smoke, and the resident at the front door of the house being assisted by a neighbor," according to the release.
