South On Its Way to Raising $30,000 for St. Baldrick's
The school has raised almost $7,000 so far.

Downers Grove South students have raised almost $7,000 for St. Baldrick's Foundation this year through a variety of fundraisers, according to the school's eNews.
St. Baldrick's Foundation supports pediatric cancer research, raising funds in part through encouraging men and women to shave their heads in solidarity with child who lose their hair after chemotherapy.
So far, 38 volunteers from Downers Grove South are prepared to have their heads shaved throughout the day and at an all-school assembly on March 11. The volunteers have solicited donations from friends and family.

Other school fundraisers have included:
- The Pintos, Fillies, and Cheerleaders raised $3,000 through a Jump-A-Flip-A-Kick-A-Thon at last Friday’s boys’ basketball game.
- Students raised $2,250 on Dollar Day, when every member of the South High School community was asked to bring $1 to donate on Monday, Feb. 7
- Superfans sold T-shirts for last Friday’s “Green-Out” basketball game against Proviso East, raising $1,100
- raised $1,000.
- Students raised $350 through bracelet sales and a split-the-pot raffle.
South has more fundraisers in store. South's Key Club will sell “Lucky Charms” wall postings and bracelets during lunch periods. A Daddy Daughter Dance for girls 3 to 11 years old is planned for March 12. There will also be a poetry slam, a Cultures in Alliance Culture Show and a Scholastic Bowl contest.
