Keller volunteers for the Invisible Children organization, Haiti's Lunchbox, the West Suburban Humane Society, Hinsdale Community Service and organized a school supply drive for needy schools in New Orleans.

“I would like other teens to know and realize that starting and organizing events isn't something only initiated by adults--you can start anything you want to,” Keller said in a school release.

Sterr headed an effort to raise more than $20,000 to pack 108,000 meals for Haitian relief effort. She also works with Invisible Children, is a small grou pleader at church and is a camp counselor.

“I believe that the only important things a person can do are the things that improve the lives of others,” Sterr said in a school release. “It is my greatest dream to continue to do just that--to change lives even in the smallest ways.”

North High School Principal Maria Ward said she was proud of the two students.

“We are so proud of these two outstanding young women for their fine leadership abilities," Ward said. "They have touched so many people at our school and in our community. Being part of The Daily Herald’s prestigious and highly selective team recognizes their global concern and caring.”
