📰 News we're reading

1. Evansville shelters provide help during severe heat (tristatehomepage.com) — With dangerous heat gripping Evansville, local homeless-service organizations like Aurora and the mission are activating a summer contingency plan to keep people safe. When temperatures top 90 degrees, they're opening daytime cooling spaces and offering water and snacks so residents without housing have somewhere safer to go during the extended heat advisory.

2. Evansville Water and Sewer Utility switching to paperless billing (courierpress.com) — Evansville Water and Sewer Utility will make paperless billing the preferred option for monthly bills starting in November, so now is the time to confirm your email and account details. You can still request paper bills, but most customers will receive statements electronically through the MyWater EWSU portal or app, which the utility says will cut mailing costs and support infrastructure work.

3. Child hit by Evansville school bus in hospital with 'serious injuries' (courierpress.com) — A juvenile was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon after being struck by an Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. bus in the Grandin Pointe Mobile Home Park off North St. Joseph Avenue. Deputies say students on the bus were not hurt, the driver stayed and cooperated, and crash reconstruction specialists are investigating, with no current indication that impairment played a role.

4. West Side Nut Club donates over $850k to nonprofits in annual Founders Day Banquet (14news.com) — Evansville's West Side Nut Club just awarded more than $850,000 to local nonprofits and schools at its annual Founders Day banquet, continuing a 105-year tradition of giving. Funded largely by the Fall Festival, the donations support shelters, family services, and community groups, and organizers expect next month's 105th festival to fuel even larger contributions next year.
