AACPS Cancels All Travel Out Of State, Country Due To Coronavirus

Effective immediately, Anne Arundel County Public Schools has halted all travel for students and staff out of state and out of the country.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — All Anne Arundel County Public Schools out-of-state and out-of-country field trips and staff travel have been canceled effective immediately due to concerns about novel coronavirus. Superintendent George Arlotto announced the policy Monday.

“This is a situation that is changing rapidly and while we want to maintain as much of a sense of normalcy with regard to our school system operations, out of an abundance of caution it is prudent at this time to limit field trips and travel to that which occurs inside the state of Maryland,” said Arlotto in a statement. “I will not put any program or experience ahead of the health and well-being of our students and staff.”

Arlotto’s decision follows a similar announcement by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who canceled all out-of-state travel for state employees earlier Monday.

Arlotto’s decision is in effect until further notice. School officials remain in constant contact with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health to receive guidance and advice on issues related to the virus.
