Judge Permits House Arrest For Pasadena Man Charged With Murder
Judge Mark Crooks has overruled the previous mandate of a district court judge and is allowing Gregory Korwek to be on house arrest.

PASADENA, MD — Gregory Korwek, 40, of Pasadena who has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter has been released on house arrest by Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Mark Crooks. On Monday, the judge overruled the previous mandate of a district court judge.
Korwek also faces charges of using a firearm in the commission of a violent felony, drug possession and possessing a shotgun despite being convicted of a disqualifying offense. According to the Baltimore Sun, the defense attorney and prosecutor argued about whether Korwek was justified in his use of lethal force when he shot Jeffrey Dickinson when the man showed up at Korwek's home Sept. 18.
Dickinson was pronounced dead at the scene. Pathologists with the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Initially, police charged Korwek with a variety of felony weapons-related offenses after confiscating more than a dozen guns from his home that he was legally prohibited from having. Police have since said they found cocaine, morphine, Suboxone and marijuana in Korwek’s house, the Baltimore Sun reported.
Assistant State’s Attorney Jason Steinhardt argued Korwek is a threat to public safety. Texts exchanged between the two men reveal that Dickinson was showing up unarmed to retrieve money he believed Korwek owed him.

"Use of deadly force is supposed to be a last resort, not a first impulse," said Steinhardt.
