Tutor Charged with Child Abuse After 7-Year-Old Hospitalized with Head Trauma: Police

Baltimore Police said video of incident at City Springs Elementary/Middle School was factor in felony charges.

BALTIMORE, MD — An aide at a Baltimore City elementary school has been arrested after a 7-year-old boy sustained head trauma at school Monday, according to police.

Timothy Randall Korr, 25, of the 3200 block of Foster Avenue, has been charged with first and second-degree child abuse, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and neglect of a minor, police said.

Charges came after detectives reviewed evidence, including a video of Korr's encounter with the child at City Springs Elementary School in the 100 block of South Caroline Street.

Korr picked up the boy and slammed him against a wall until his body went limp, according to Baltimore Police Chief of Media Relations TJ Smith, who said the video was difficult to watch, particularly for parents in the agency. He said the child suffered broken bones as a result.

In the video, the boy was "manhandled like a sack of potatoes," Smith said, calling the behavior "despicable," "incomprehensible" and "disgusting."

Korr, a tutor for the Baltimore Curriculum Project, allegedly said he was carrying the child out of class for being disruptive when he lost his footing and hit a wall, according to Fox 45, which reported the child suffered a fractured jaw as a result.

The boy was brought to Johns Hopkins Children's Center Monday with major trauma to the head, and detectives were called to the hospital to investigate possible child abuse, Baltimore Police said.

Korr is currently at Central Booking waiting to see a court commissioner, police reported Wednesday afternoon.

According to WBAL, Korr has been terminated from his employment with the Baltimore Curriculum Project, a nonprofit that oversees operations at City Springs Elementary, a charter school in the Baltimore City Public Schools system; the child reportedly remained hospitalized.
