Bank Robber Drops Cash; Bystanders Grab It: Police

Montgomery County Police searching for a bank robbery warn that passersby who picked up some of the loot will be prosecuted, too.

Detectives trying to find a Silver Spring bank robber have another puzzle to solve: who picked up some of the stolen loot when it was dropped on the street?

The TD Bank at 3132 Briggs Chaney Road was robbed about 10:14 a.m. Wednesday. Montgomery County Police say the suspect entered the bank, approached the teller, and passed a note demanding money. The note implied the robbery suspect had a weapon, but a weapon was not seen.

According to authorities, the man left with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled to a nearby shopping center. Shortly after the robbery, some of the money carried by the suspect was dropped and picked up by passersby before police arrived on the scene.
