Bicyclist Identified in Fatal Bethesda Crash (Update)

Montgomery County Police say the victim had once served as a U.S. Navy Seal.

Authorities have released the name of a Bethesda bicyclist killed Friday morning when he was hit by a vehicle.

Montgomery County Police say the victim is Timothy Aloysius Holden, 64, of the 5900 block of Carlton Lane in Bethesda. Holden was eastbound on Massachusetts Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by Ricardo Kenard Freeman, 22, of the 1600 block of Meadowood Court in Edgewood.

Police are still trying to determine why the Malibu struck the bicycle. Holden died from his injures at the scene.

The Washington Post reports that Holden had once served as a Navy Seal.

The fatal collision happened just after 6 a.m. in the 6000 block of Massachusetts Avenue. Montgomery County Police say Freeman remained at the accident scene.

Massachusetts Avenue was closed between Sangamore Road and Goldsboro Road for much of the morning.
