Capital Beltway Double Lane Closures Begin June 3 in Bethesda Area
Crews will perform emergency bridge work on the Outer Loop of I-495 in Chevy Chase, Silver Spring starting June 3.

CHEVY CHASE, MD — Two lanes of the Capital Beltway will be closed over the weekend so crews can replace the concrete surface of the I-495 bridge over Jones Mill Road/Stonybrook Drive.
The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration will temporarily close two lanes on the outer loop of I-495 (Capital Beltway) from MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) to MD 185 (Connecticut Avenue).
Beginning about 9 p.m. Friday, June 3, crews will perform emergency repairs to the I-495 bridge. Its driving surface is in poor condition and needs repairs, say state highway officials.

Crews will remove the top layer of concrete on the bridge, repair the bridge expansion joints and deck, and resurface the bridge deck with concrete. The work will improve ride quality for drivers in this area. Weather and progress permitting, all lanes should reopen no later than 5 a.m. Monday.
The repairs and lane closures this weekend will take place in two phases. Crews will first close two left lanes on the outer loop of I-495 to begin repairs, reopen the left two lanes once the first phase of work is complete and then close the right two lanes on the outer loop of I-495 to complete the second phase of the repairs. Equipment used for construction may be disruptive.
