Chevy Chase Burglary Wave Ends with 2 Arrests: Police

Two men from Washington, D.C., were arrested for breakins or attempted burglaries at six homes, police say.

Two Washington, D.C., men were arrested Thursday for a string of residential burglaries in the Chevy Chase area, after police reportedly caught them in the act.

Since Oct. 13, detectives have been several burglaries that took place during the daytime; in the cases the suspect entered the homes by breaking a rear sliding glass door or a basement window.

During the investigation, fingerprints recovered from the homes were submitted for analysis. Detectives received a fingerprint match that identified Eric A. Outlaw, 25, of the 1300 block of New York Avenue NE, Washington, DC, as the suspect in the burglaries.

On Thursday, investigators in the area of the 3600 block of Shepherd Street in Chevy Chase -- the same area as the prior burglaries -- saw Outlaw and another suspect reportedly trying to break into two houses. The second man was later identified as Stephon E. Jones, 26, of the 1900 block of 16th Street SE, Washington, D.C.

Police arrested both men; Outlaw was charged for a role in six breakins:

  • October 13 – 7500 block of Tarrytown Road in Chevy Chase. Several items were taken from the residence.
  • October 14 – 3900 block of Aspen Street in Chevy Chase. Several items were taken from the residence.
  • October 20 – 3800 block of Blackthorn Street in Chevy Chase. Several items were taken from the residence.
  • October 20 – Attempted residential burglary in the 4100 block of Blackthorn Street in Chevy Chase. Outlaw allegedly broke a rear window to the residence but was unable to gain entry.
  • October 29 – Two attempted residential burglaries in the 3600 block of Shepherd Street in Chevy Chase.

Detectives charged Jones with attempting to commit two burglaries in the 3600 block of Shepherd Street while in the company of Outlaw.

Outlaw and Jones were taken to the Central Processing Unit and were charged with numerous crimes, including burglary, theft, and destruction of property.

Outlaw is being held on a $50,000 bond and Jones was released after posting a $25,000 bond.
