Lane Closures Loom While Rockville Pike Water Main Replaced
WSSC crews will begin work Nov. 30 to repair an aging water main -- part of which broke last month, wreaking havoc with traffic.

Comprehensive repairs to a water main along Rockville Pike that caused major traffic problems when it broke last month will begin Monday, Nov. 30, weather permitting, utility officials say.
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission will begin repairs to a water main along MD 355 (Rockville Pike) between the ramps to I-495 (Capital Beltway) and the MD 355 Cedar Lane/West Cedar Lane intersection. Weather permitting, the work should be complete by mid- to late December.
Electronic message signs alerting drivers of the pending work will be placed along MD 355 near the work zone.

The repairs are a continuation of primary repairs made to a broken water main on MD 355 near the Cedar Lane/West Cedar Lane intersection last month. Once the repairs are complete, WSSC contractors will resurface the section of road excavated to perform the repairs.

To complete all comprehensive repairs to the water main, crews will work up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week and may temporarily close the following lanes along MD 355:
- Northbound—Single and double left and right lane closures, Sunday through Saturday, up to 24 hours a day
- Southbound—Single and double left and right lane closures, Sunday through Saturday, up to 24 hours a day
Drivers should add extra commute time for the repairs and lane closures through the end of the year.
