Following recent pedestrian accidents in the county – a Silver Spring teen hit Monday, Rockville and Bethesda pedestrians killed on the same day two weeks ago – Montgomery County Police are focusing on pedestrian safety.

On Wednesday, police officers will target locations with marked crosswalks and areas that have been identified as sites of more pedestrian collisions.

Police will focus their efforts on Route 355 from Germantown to Bethesda and Georgia Avenue from Connecticut Avenue to University Boulevard. Officers will issue citations to drivers and pedestrians who violate the law.

The department says officers will stop drivers who do not yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and also stop pedestrians who do not cross the street at crosswalks.
