Neighbors Dig Out Ambulance With Critically Ill Child

Neighbors battled the elements Saturday in Kensington to get a critically ill child to the hospital in the height of the weekend blizzard.

The ambulance was from the fire station in Aspen Hill in Kensington. About 30 inches of snow fell in the area by Sunday.

“Some residents helping to free up a stuck ambulance that had a critically ill child aboard. Thank you folks who chipped in!,” the department wrote on Facebook. >>>read more.

Snow Shoveling Death Reported, Ways to Avoid Injury

A Fort Washington resident died from a heart attack while shoveling snow during the storm, according to Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department. >>>read more.

Experts say that the keys to not overdoing snow removal are to keep shoveling in shifts, and wear layers.

A few tips:

  • Push the snow; don’t lift it
  • If you do lift it, use a small shovel or only partially fill the shovel
  • Lift with your legs, not your back
  • Do not work to the point of exhaustion
