State of Black Montgomery Topic of Forum

The African-American Democratic Club of Montgomery County will host its annual event in Silver Spring on Feb. 6.

The African-American Democratic Club of Montgomery County will host its annual “State of Black Montgomery” event in Silver Spring on Saturday, Feb. 6. The forum will focus on key issues surrounding Montgomery County’s African-American community.

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will give opening remarks and host a “TED talk” style dialogue about civic engagement, economic empowerment, education equity and police accountability.

Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. and the program will begin at 9:30 a.m. After lunch, a community discussion will be held with candidates for Maryland’s 8th congressional district and the U.S. Senate race.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place in Silver Spring. The forum is free and open to the public but sponsors and donations are encouraged.
