Thai Rolled Ice Cream Store Opens In Bethesda

Class 520 will open Friday, and the first 30 customers Friday and Saturday will get coupon cards for three months of free ice cream.

BETHESDA, MD — The "Thai-inspired" ice cream shop Class 520 will open at 4941 Elm St. this weekend in Bethesda, according to Bethesda Magazine.

Class 520 specializes in Thai rolled ice cream: little rolls of ice cream that are packed into a cup, then topped with extras like gummy bears and hot fudge. Watching Thai rolled ice cream being made is just as fun as eating it. Employees pour a cup of flavored milk-based liquid on an extremely cold, flat metal circle. As the base freezes, the ice cream evenly covers the circle. Employees then use a spatula to roll the ice cream into quarter-sized rolls.

"We definitely expect a lot of people to not know what to expect and finding out when they’re there," manager Adam Shi said.
