Greenbelt Teacher Missing 9 Days, No Tie To Rachel Morin Case: Greenbelt Police
A beloved Greenbelt teacher remains missing, but the police chief says her disappearance isn't related to Rachel Morin's death in Bel Air.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Mariame Toure Sylla, who will turn 60 next month, remains missing with no leads as to her whereabouts. Greenbelt Police Chief Richard Bowers reiterated there are no indications Sylla's disappearance is connected to the weekend slaying of Rachel Morin in Bel Air.
"We are desperately trying to find Mariame Toure Sylla. We continue to need the public's help. We have not been able to locate her. We are asking again for help from community members, the media and other partners to help locate her, to help us discover where she is," Bowers said at a news conference Thursday morning
Bowers said the police department has conducted a number of searches and extensively searched the park near her home, where she was last seen July 29 around 8 p.m. Sylla lives in a condominium community in the 6500 block of Lake Park Drive in Greenbelt and stands 5'5 and weighs 135 pounds.

Neighbors told WUSA that Sylla enjoys walking in the Schrom Hills Park, which is located across from where she lives. The Dora Kennedy French Immersion School third-grade teacher told her son that she was going for a walk before sunset prayer, but she never returned.
Bowers said investigators have examined Sylla's cell phone records, financial records, social media accounts and more for evidence.

"We believe someone out there somewhere has seen her and knows where she is and can provide important information as to her whereabouts. For her family, friends, colleagues and community, we need to find her," Bowers said. "Her absence has been felt, particularly by her students."
Bowers confirmed that nothing indicates Sylla has left the country and her cell phone and financial records do not show recent use. Her last cell phone ping was in the park she frequented, but she was never found there in recent searches.
Sylla takes medication that she needs regularly, WUSA9 reported. If anyone sees Sylla, they're asked to call Detective Davis at (240) 542-2134, ddavis@greenbeltmd.gov, or the Greenbelt Police Department at (301) 474-7200.
