Howard County Salute to 250 Years of Military Service

A 250th Birthday Celebration for the US Army, US Navy, and US Marine Corps

(Bill Spencer, HoCo250 Planner)

On Sunday April 19th, HoCo250 and the Howard County Commission for Veterans and Military Families will Salute 250 Years of Military Service for the US Army, US Navy, and the US Marine Corps. America’s Semiquincentennial offers a unique opportunity to honor the legacy, traditions, and service of our United States military — both past and present. This Howard County 250 event, being held at the Belmont Manor and Historic Park in Elkridge, MD, will recognize the vital role of the United States Armed Forces in shaping the nation’s history; it will also celebrate the men and women who continue to serve our nation with honor today. April 19th is especially significant as it marked the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, the historical beginning of the American Revolutionary War and the shift from colonial protests to armed rebellion against the British Crown. Musical performances by the Maryland National Guard 229th Band and the Voices of Vets Vocal Group; a demonstration by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon; Army, Navy, and USMC historical artifacts and historians; vintage vehicles; period reenactors; food trucks; and a formal program with guest speakers are all expected to make this a once-in-a-lifetime event for Howard County and for Maryland! This event is FREE to the public.
