Police Double as Santas in Columbia: 77 Packages Returned to Victims of Porch Pirates

Officers personally returned packages to 51 families affected by the Long Reach thefts, Howard County Police Chief Gary Gardner said.

COLUMBIA, MD — All of the 77 packages swiped by "porch pirates" from Columbia residences have been returned to their rightful owners, according to police, who personally delivered the parcels.

A resident in the area of Greystone Lane alerted authorities late Wednesday afternoon that a suspicious box truck was going around the neighborhood picking up boxes from people's homes.

In less than a minute, a community resource officer was at the scene, and two others arrived soon after. Police said they stopped the truck, which had 77 packages inside as well as a pair of suspected "porch pirates."
