School Redistricting Plan Upsets Howard County Families, Shuffles Around 2,500 Kids

A proposed redistricting plan that shuffles about 2,500 students has upset Howard County families.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A controversial school redistricting plan has drawn ire from parents in Howard County.

A protest held Wednesday night allowed families to vent and make their voices heard before they headed inside to participate in a public hearing.

Under the Howard County Public School System superintendent's school redistricting plan, approximately 2,500 students would be affected with the opening of a new high school in Jessup next fall.

As WBAL reports, some students from Hammond, Howard and Long Reach high schools will be sent to the new high school. Some students from Mount Hebron High School will be sent to Howard and some students from Reservoir High School will be sent to Hammond.
