Shredding Event Set For April
Residents can take up to three boxes or bags full of documents to a shredding event hosted by the county's Bureau of Environmental Services.
COLUMBIA, MD — The first county-sponsored document shredding event of the year has been set for April 11.
Residents can take up to three bags or boxes of paper documents to be shredded at the event between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. or until the trucks are full. The shredding event will be held at Howard Community College's Lot G, located at 10650 Hickory Ridge Road.
Hosted by Howard County's Bureau of Environmental Services, the types of documents accepted include federal and state tax documents, credit card and other household bills, medical records, pay stubs, mortgage documents and insurance bills — documents that include account numbers, passwords, PINs, signatures, Social Security numbers and date of birth.

Items not accepted at the event include:
- File folders
- Manila folders
- Junk mail
- Schoolwork
- Event programs
- Coloring books
- Brochures
- Advertising
- Magazines
- Calendars
Organizers ask that residents make sure boxes and bags are free of batteries, plastic or glass items, binder clips, screwdrivers, scissors and similar items that could damage the shredder.
