Weather Decision Updated For Tuesday Classes: Howard County Public Schools

The Howard County Public School System has changed its schedule for Tuesday after snow blanketed the state Monday into Tuesday.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — With nearly 4 inches of snow on the ground, all Howard County public schools and offices are closed Tuesday, Jan. 16. High school midterms scheduled for Jan. 16 will be moved to Jan. 23.

All evening activities involving HCPSS students and staff are canceled. In addition, all community-sponsored programs in HCPSS buildings are canceled.

Monday night school officials with the Howard County Public School System announced classes would begin open two hours late Tuesday due to weather conditions. But that was updated to a cancelation early Tuesday.

It snowed nearly all day Monday and into Tuesday morning in Maryland. Odenton got about 4.5 inches, according to Patch's unofficial measurement around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The Baltimore-DC region was forecast to see up to 4 inches of snow Monday into Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service said. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, the NWS said, with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected in much of north central, northeast and northern Maryland.

"Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the afternoon and evening commute," the NWS advisory said.
