Crofton 13-U Boys Win Three of Four, 8-U Boys Bounce Back

The Cardinals remain unbeaten in the Anne Arundel County league.

The Crofton 13-U boys had a busy time last weekend, going 3-1 in league and tournament games. Crofton plays in a few different leagues and also stays active in tournaments, which is what they did last weekend.

The Cardinals began by beating Lake Shore I, 48-23, in their Anne Arundel County League game on Saturday. But Sunday’s efforts took a little longer as Crofton beat the Bays, 41-37, in five overtimes in the Harundale league.

They played the Bays 12-U team on Sunday in the MLK Tournament and had a much easier time, rolling to a 55-19 victory. But Crofton fell to Severna Park in the tournament’s semifinal, 41-40.

The 8-U boys bounced back from a tough loss in their Anne Arundel County league game to roll to a 26-10 victory over GHAA.

Alex Barnes scored six points in the win and earned the game ball that the team awards after each contest.

Jordan Dabney also scored six points. Drew Stangroom added four while Patrick Moyer, Patrick Morris, Hunter Steinau and David Roy all played well in the win.

“We played our best all-around complete game, offensively and defensively,” said coach Andy Stangroom.

Crofton stays busy this weekend, playing games on Saturday at both 10 a.m. and noon.

The Crofton girls are alone in first place in the 17-U league. They won their first three games this winter, beating SCYA, Generals Highway and Bays to jump into first place under the guidance of coach Stephanie Brauer.

In the 15-U league, the Crofton girls are in the middle of the pack, having split their first two games for coach Ed Murray. They beat SRYA and lost to South River for their 1-1 record.
