Crofton 8-Under Boys Post Perfect Season
Crofton averaged 15.4 points per game and 23.3 points overall during the last three games.
The Crofton boys made life miserable for the rest of the Wake Forest 8-under “B” basketball league this season.
Crofton rolled to a perfect 10-0 record for coach Rick Gloekler in the Anne Arundel County league, having little trouble with most of its opponents in an impressive season.
Gloekler’s team won its division, and they had the best overall record in the league. There was no championship game this winter. There might not have been any needed anyway as Crofton left little doubt which team was the best this season.

Crofton averaged 15.4 points per game, but that number jumped to 23.3 points overall during the last three games.
The team’s defense was more than stingy, giving up only 4.4 points per game. Those numbers showed up nicely in the final game, a 24-4 rout of Lake Shore.

“We always won as a team with great defense,” Gloekler said. “Everyone on our team (helped on offense).”
Ricky Gloekler led the team with a total of 33 points this season. Peter Baldwin was the top rebounder with 74 for the season, and Brandon Grusholt helped the solid defense with 53 steals. The defense is what helps the offense go, and the combination can be tough for opposing teams to beat.
Baldwin was team’s most valuable player. Gloekler earned offensive MVP honors while Grusholt was the same pick for his work on defense.
Gloekler said the team got a lot of help from a lot of places and that balance was a big reason that Crofton kept finding success.
“We had a great season,” he said. “The boys all played well. It was a lot of fun.”
In addition to Baldwin, Gloekler and Grusholt, here’s the rest of the championship team’s roster: Jack Elliott, Colin Farrell, Nathaniel Harris, Peter Moore, Jaden Queen, Sean Smith and Nicolas Trindade.
