Crofton Stars 10-u Outshine HCYP Patriots

The Stars finished a six-inning game with 14 walks, to pull out a 7-3 victory in a home game.

The Crofton Stars 10-under travel team showed how to win in softball in a recent game even if you don’t get many hits.

Crofton managed only two hits against the HCYP Patriots, but used 14 walks and a lot of patience at the plate to pull out a 7-3 victory in a home game earlier in the week.

The Stars finished the six-inning game with 14 walks, which was a big complement to the two hits. Several of the Stars played a role in helping the offense post the seven runs—especially in the first inning when they scored five for an early 5-0 lead.

They added two more in the third inning to stretch the lead to 7-2. The Patriots – who finished with only two hits themselves – pushed across a run in the sixth but couldn’t do any more.

Emma Ruberg gave Crofton a good effort on the mound. She threw five innings and held the Patriots to two runs on two hits. She helped her own cause by striking out 12 and walking only four and not letting the Patriots cause much trouble.

Caroline Mills came on and finished the game by not giving up a run in the sixth. She struck out the side to seal the victory.

But several different players helped on offense, a big reason Crofton kept the pressure on in the two innings it scored runs.

Mackenzie Meehan and Arianna Reeves each got one hit, and that proved to be all Crofton would get. But Meehan had two RBI, and Grace Getz knocked in one run. Ruberg scored twice and added an RBI. Taylor Conley did the same thing. Allison Page scored a run.

In addition, Mills drove in two runs. Crofton also helped its cause by stealing seven bases in the game. The combination of 14 walks and seven steals proved too much for the Patriots.
