Sparrows Point Odor Put Schools on Alert, Officials Say

Firefighters were called for odor and smoke, according to Baltimore County public safety officials.

Several schools in Baltimore County were on alert Friday due to an odor in the Dundalk area, officials said.

At 11:10 a.m. on Friday, smoke and a chemical odor prompted fire crews to respond to the vicinity around Sparrows Point, according to Baltimore County police and fire officials.

Baltimore County Emergency Management reported that the smoke had faded by 11:52 a.m., and authorities were working to identify the source of the odor.

Schools were back to regular operations after officials determined the odor did not pose a threat, Baltimore County Emergency Management reported at 11:55 a.m.
