#AACoPD Adds to Social Media Reach with Pinterest Page

Anne Arundel County Police Department has launched a Pinterest page to house public service announcements, events, wanted fliers and more.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department has added to its far-reaching social media arsenal with the launch of its Pinterest page, according to a release.

The social media platform allows users to share pictures, ideas, interests and more. The Police Department plans to use it to advertise and “house” public service announcements, community events, and more.

The Pinterest page will allow users to easily find a wanted person flier, public service announcement flier or even pictures from community events. The platform also allows for videos to be embedded.

In addition to Pinterest, the Anne Arundel County Police Department can also be found on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, and Nixle.

This platform also gives police the opportunity to expand the use of social media in crime fighting by profiling wanted suspects and information sought videos and posters for its #SocialMediaSleuths to share. The agency has garnered national and worldwide attention for its use of law enforcement social media.

According to the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Anne Arundel County Police Department ranks second in most Facebook fans (IACP Facebook Rankings for agencies with 500-999 officers and seventh in Twitter followers (IACP Twitter Rankings).

This level of social media engagement has been critical to not only providing an additional layer of transparency, but also by disseminating information on breaking news/critical incidents, bringing home missing persons, identifying suspects in crimes and engaging the community with public service announcements.
