Czech Man Fatally Struck by Shady Side Driver
The man was attempting to cross a road when he was struck by an SUV driven by a man from Shady Side.

A Czech Republic man was fatally struck by a vehicle in Annapolis.
According to police, a white Chrysler Pacifica was southbound on Solomons Island Road when two pedestrians attempted to cross the road westbound. The driver was identified as Ryan E. Lester, 19, of Shady Side.
The first pedestrian ran across the northbound lanes but was struck in the southbound lanes and dragged a short distance by the vehicle, police said.

The victim, identified as Petr Safar, 26 was declared dead at the scene.
Police said the cause of the crash appears to be a pedestrian error due to the victim attempting to cross with a do not cross signal. According to police, a contributing factor was the rainy weather conditions and neither speed nor alcohol appears to be involved.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.
