Former Police Officer Charged with Sex Offenses Found Dead

Authorities say John Warhurst, a former Prince George's County Police officer, committed suicide in Anne Arundel County.

A former Prince George’s County Police officer charged last year with raping a child and other sex offenses was found dead Friday of an apparent suicide.

The body of John Warhurst was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound near Bayard and Sands roads in Lothian in Anne Arundel County, reports WJLA TV.

Warhurst, a 21-year veteran of the Prince George’s County force, retired after he was arrested in November of 2013.

The Washington Post reports that Warhurst, 43, of Chesapeake Beach in Calvert County, was charged 16 crimes stemming from alleged incidents dating between 2008 and 2012.

Warhurst’s trial was set to begin Oct. 28.
