2 Injured, Family Displaced After $400K Fire Breaks Out In Damascus
A $400,000 fire at a Damascus townhouse displaced a family as dozens of firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, authorities said.
DAMASCUS, MD — An accidental fire that broke out Sunday at a two-story Damascus townhouse left two adults injured and a family displaced. Early estimates put damages at about $400,000.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer said firefighters were dispatched to Shelldrake Court in Damascus just after 10:30 a.m. for reports of a bedroom fire.
About 60 firefighters responded to the scene after officials reported the fire had expanded into the home's attic.

Two adults at the home were treated for non-life-threatening injuries they suffered while trying to fight the fire, according to Piringer. The pair were alerted to the bedroom fire after being informed by two children in the home.
All four individuals were displaced.

Piringer said the fire was accidental after investigators determined it was caused by an open flame that was placed "too close to combustibles."
