Man Struck By Dump Truck On I-270 Has Died: Maryland State Police

Authorities say a pedestrian who was hit by a dump truck while crossing I-270 has died.

GERMANTOWN, MD — Authorities say a 36-year-old man has died after being struck by a dump truck on I-270 Monday afternoon.

Around 12:15 p.m., Tyrone Alonzo Jones, who attempted to cross the street on northbound I-270, appeared to be standing in the middle lane shortly before the collision, according to Maryland State Police. Jones was in critical condition after getting hit by a dump truck.

Police identified the driver of the dump truck as John Melvin Ruthvin, Sr. He remained on the scene for an inspection by units from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.

Meanwhile, Jones was rushed to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in D.C. for treatment. Jones died at the hospital about an hour after the incident, officials said.
